New York Art Conservation is a conservation studio specialized in modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, and objects, proudly located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
We work with the world’s leading art galleries, museums, auction houses, private collectors, insurances, and nonprofits.
NYAC is a women-owned business founded in 2022 by the former core team of Contemporary Conservation Ltd. (see Joint Statement here ) who have worked closely together for many years. Our collective knowledge, trust, and experience is our strength, and as an equal partnership, we value a collaborative spirit and democratic exchange of ideas and professionalism. We hold our work to the highest of standards and take pride in the relationships we have developed over the years with artists and artist foundations.
Our international and multilingual team of highly skilled and specialized conservators has consistently excelled in problem-solving, finding solutions for unprecedented conservation challenges, and adjusting established treatment approaches to contemporary and non-traditional materials.
We have an innate understanding of the art market’s complexity and the specific role that conservation plays. We work closely with allied professionals and conservators in other specialities to create a full spectrum of conservation services.
In order to keep up with the latest methodologies in conservation and always strive for new heights of acquired education, we are members of and active participants in the following professional associations: AIC, AIC – CAN (founding members), ICOM-CC, INCCA, Alliance for Response NY.
As a continuing commitment to academia, we pride ourselves in fostering relationships with New York University, the School of Visual Arts, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Our doors are always open to the affiliates of institutions nurturing the future of conservation.
Contemporary Conservation Ltd. is pleased to announce that after 50 exciting years in conservation — the last 20 of those in New York—its founder, Christian Scheidemann, is transitioning from active conservation to writing and research, and refers its reputable and successful service to his excellent and experienced team of conservators and studio manager, starting on May 16th 2022.
Contemporary Conservation’s longtime conservators Christine Fröhner, Delia Müller-Wüsten, Giuliana Moretto, and Sara Cadiñanos Fernandez, together with studio manager Katie Bel, have formed New York Art Conservation LLC (“NYAC”). The well-established team will maintain the existing studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and will continue to serve all of our prestigious clients with the same level of premier consultation and conservation services that our clients have long come to expect and demand. Christian will serve as an advisor to New York Art Conservation.
