New York Art Conservation (NYAC), in collaboration with Deffner & Johann GmbH, Germany is pleased to announce a Nanorestore® Cleaning Workshop instructed by Yngve Magnusson (Dipl. Rest. Univ., Conservator) and assisted by Maren Dümmler (M.A. in paper conservation).

The workshop aims to introduce conservation professionals to the safe application of nanotechnology using Nanorestore® cleaning methods in the form of hydrogels and microemulsions as well as advanced surface cleaning techniques utilizing poultices with Evolon CR and Japanese paper.

In this intensive two-day workshop, participants will gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience working with various surfaces including textiles, paint, and paper. They will extensively use Nanorestore® Microemulsions and Gels across a wide range of mock-ups and samples.

This workshop is intended for conservators in all specializations with professional experience and deep knowledge of material science.

Instructors:

Yngve Magnusson is an art conservator with expertise in the conservation of furniture, polychrome sculptures, and paintings. He graduated at Technische Universität, Munich, with a Diploma in conservation and preservation. He has taught at various institutions as a guest lecturer and served as head conservator at the Kode Art Museum in Bergen, Norway. Currently, he oversees painting restoration and collection management at the Lillehammer Museum Foundation in Norway. He has been utilizing Nanorestore® in conservation for many years and conducts practical workshops on the application of Nanorestore® Microemulsions and Gels. Magnusson Is a developer of processing guidelines for Nanorestore® cleaning products.

Maren Dümmler is a private practice conservator who received her Master’s degree in Paper Conservation in 2013 from the Cologne Institute of Conservation Science. She has extensively researched wax and its conservation and has worked as a development assistant for the Soft Particle Cleaning technique. She conducts workshops and teaches courses on Soft Particle Cleaning as well as on the use of synthetic binders in paper restoration across Europe. Her professional work encompasses the restoration of both contemporary art and historical documents, books, and paper.

Giovanna Poggi earned her Ph.D. in Science for Cultural Heritage Conservation from the University of Florence, mentored by Prof. Piero Baglioni. She has worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Colloids and Nanosciences (CSGI), contributing to European projects such as FP7 NANOFORART, H2020 NANORESTART, H2020 APACHE, ERC GraphenART, and HORIZON EUROPE GREENART. Currently, she is a fixed-term researcher in physical chemistry at the University of Florence’s Chemistry Department. Her research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles for applications in paper and wood deacidification and the consolidation of carbonate-based matrices. Recently, she has also been involved in developing and characterizing hydrogels and organogels for the cleaning of artworks, as well as exploring biocompatible polymers for various applications.
